How it works

  1. The browser draws each video frame onto a hidden canvas and averages a 5×5 pixel patch around the sample point, so sensor noise doesn’t make the value jitter.
  2. Tap anywhere on the viewfinder to lock the sample to that spot — useful when you can’t hold the camera perfectly still over a target. “Reset to center” releases the lock.
  3. Click the big swatch (or hit “Save”) to keep up to 12 colors. Clicking a chip copies its hex; right-click or long-press removes it. Your saved colors persist in localStorage.
  4. Sampling pauses when the tab is hidden or the camera is stopped, to save battery on phones.
  5. Pixels never leave the device. No upload, no signup, no analytics.
